strings of sound mapping the thresholds of a liminal space (2019) came about through composer Anna Höstman’s generosity - I had proposed to organize a concert of her works and she responded with an invitation to split a concert with a new work from each of us.
The piece, itself, is the first piece that I had written outside of a four-year project that had culminated in the release of my album “...amid the cannon's roar,” in 2018.
strings of sound mapping the thresholds of a liminal space presents a delicate trajectory that is struggling to reconcile “toward” and “away from” inside of a space that is familiar, reminiscent, and signifying in a way that never quite settles, or lands.
There is a subtle and mild electronic treatment. The signal path looks like this:
