Jason Doell is an artist whose primary (but not exclusive) medium is acoustic sound, often presented as “composed” works.
Through his works from 2015 - 2018, Jason explored the tensions of being a Canadian settler artist who has inherited the brutal legacy of the British colonial project - combining graceful and delicate aesthetics, collage poetry, and music semiology. The culmination of this work was the 2018 album of chamber works “...amid the cannons roar,” which was released as part of the Open Ears Festival portrait concert of Jason’s works.
Jason’s current series of seven works (2019 - 2021) are intermedial/ multidisciplinary works that employ a sentimental, personalized, and personified approach to database aesthetics. These works will channel the sliding coherence of fractured narativity, post-truthiness/textual fungibility, and fake blues.
