The Departures series continues its foray into contemporary chamber music in this rare presentation of ensemble works by American composer, sound artist, and electroacoustic performer Andrea Parkins.
Parkins engages with interactive electronics as both material and process, and as a means of making sense and disrupting it. Her focus has been to articulate and build multiple and interdependent structures and systems emphasizing tenuous states, stasis, and relationships between site, object, and gesture. With sound, she investigate tensions between the real and the ephemeral. Her most recent pieces are interactive audio installations and performances inspired by Rube Goldberg’s circuitous machines, as well as live sound design for contemporary dance and sound for film.
Parkins has collaborated with the likes of Nels Cline, Otomo Yoshihide and Fred Frith, among many others. Her compositions, performances, and installations have been presented at music, sound and intermedia arts spaces in Europe, the US and Australia.
